logic board went Can't Post

Has anyone ever changed a logic board on their Imac? I just had the logic board go on my imac and they want almost a thousand dollars to change it. I was wondering if I had any alternatives short of buying a new computer. The apple care just ran out a couple of months ago.
Thanks for any help

I found a company in california who will fix it for 450.00. Apple wanted 800.00. The name of the company is DT&T computer services.Thats the best deal. The boards themselves are at least that and more. This company fixes your board and sends it back.Anybody heard of them?

This is just my opinion, but I think your money would be better spent by purchasing a new iMac. You said that your Apple Care just expired so I would guess that your iMac is 2 or 3 years old. You can get some great deals on refurbished machines that come with a full warranty and qualify for the Apple Care extended warranty. Just something to think about.

I know, I have been tossing it around. The only thing is this computer is just an office computer and not for editing so I kinda don't want to spend 1200.00 for a new one. It is only a year and a half old I just spaced out renewing the apple care on it.I have to think about it.Refurbished? Where?

The fact that you are only using this computer as an office computer and not editing with it makes the decision a little more difficult. If you were editing with it I'd say it was a no brainer to replace it with something with more horse power. But you can easily get a few more years out of it as a office computer. Personally I think I would go ahead and replace it because I don't know how reliable it would be with a replaced logic board. That seems like a fairly serious issue.

You can buy refurbished directly from the Apple Store website. Look for a red "deals" banner towards the bottom right of the page. I've purchased refurbished machines from PowerMax. The machines have been solid and PowerMax are a joy to work with. They will even allow you to trade your old hardware.

I'm probably gonna bite the bullet and buy a new one.

For an office computer, get a refreshed Mac Mini and monitor. Probably about $7-800.
