Re: [brucecleveland] multi-cam question [In reply to] Can't Post

Nah, I was actually just bored. I just had a Welcome Back Kotter flashback for some reason. Crazy

In all seriousness, I asked Ron the same question before, and I believe that was his answer.
Having the R4 right next to him, I can't think of any way he could do this except hard wire the feeds and tape down the cables.

This is what I have been experimenting with using the R-44 and wireless. Although I would have the R-44 on the alter (pulpit for readings and have a few wireless feeds going into it (groom, musicians, maybe pastor), and a wired mic on the pulpit (for readings). Then send a wireless feed from the R-44 line out to my camera for backup sync audio.

Although having the R-44 next to me would most likely be better for adjusting on the fly if needed. But I'm focusing too much on the shot to also monitor and adjust the audio on the fly.
So if the R-44 is away from me, and I'm monitoring then at least I know the units recording properly. I think that I'm a little ADD, as I always have to fiddle with things. Crazy

Ron what do you do if the ceremony calls for live musicians (which I remember seeing a string quartet used on one of your clips on your blog)?

I'll plug the AT825 up to the Zoom H4 on a mic stand over the quartet. Also sometimes the church will mic the quartet and if I have a live feed from the church system to my R4 then I have 2 sources for the quartet.

Tell me again why this is better than just running the wireless into my camera? Seems like if you were running into the Edrinol you have problems monitoring the audio with headphones.

Actually Bruce, since I am sending a wireless feed to my camera from the R-44, I am monitoring the R-44 on my camera with headphones on my camera.
If I setup the R-44 the way Ron does, by my tripod, then I can plug a direct line out feed into my FX1 or simply monitor and adjust the R-44 via it's headphone out.

Also the real advantage to the R-44 is that you get a perfect (constant) mix of the ceremony/reception to removable SD media.
So even if I have to change tapes for some reason, I have constant (uncompressed) audio that is perfectly mixed.

I am able to do a similar thing via my FX1 and a 4-channel Juicedlink XLR box. Even though the FX1 has only 2 channels, I can simply adjust (turn up or down) the channels that I need up. I send 3 wireless feeds to my camera and use an onboard shotgun mic if needed for ambient audio. I use this setup when I don't want to use my R-44. Although as we all know in camera audio, especially HD camera audio isn't nearly as good as uncompressed WAV audio from the R-44.

Hey Ron... back to multiclips...

I was going to do your line up -> fill with slug -> export non-self-contained but when I went to export, it said it was going to take 3 hours. This was for a 30 min ceremony in HDV. I know you are not shooting HDV but any thoughts on that?

And yes, I am sure, Self-Contained was NOT checked.

Gosh Brian, I sure hate to hear that! Not something I look forward to. Im looking at the manual here and it states "You can also choose to use the existing settings o the clip or sequence you are exporting, or create customized settings in a custom Sequence Preset Editor. If you are exporting using the existing settings, you can choose whether or not to recompress the frames. (Volume IV page 236)

So I guess I would want to know if you were using the existing settings of the clip or sequence, and did you de-select recompress frames? Also, you haven't applied any filters to the clip have you?

Man you got that right. I was listening to the audio recorded via my FX1 the other day and it sounds like pure crap! Of course I was just using the built in mics on the camera, but still the compressed audio it records is nothing better then an MP3 file, no mater what mic you have plugged up to it.

Recording my audio separate from my video is extra work, but the quality is worth it, and I think the customer notices it, whether he/she realizes it or not.

It's probably going to be Monday before I can return to the project, but I hope I can figure it out. I need to find out why the audio isn't working right. Pirate
