setting up old G3 to Edit Can't Post

I too have the "oldest beige" G3 and want to do video.
I just bought a Sony digital8 and am considering buying a MotoDV firewire card and software
($399) to begin editing my underwater footage. I was told by Digital Origins that I should also get
a faster scsi controller and a faster harddrive (I have an old APS harddrive, call the AV model,
since it doesn't do thermal calibration during data transfer).
I'm wondering:
1. Is the Digital Origin product the way to go?
2. Are these additional expenses (new scsi card, new hard drive) justified/necessary?
3 Would a new G4 or iMac be cheaper in the long run?
Thanks and PLEASE also reply to: jim@siliconbeach.com
