Velma, I had a similar issue last week when we had an outage. Strange things started happening. I noticed things freezing on me (motion was going slower than usual) and compressor refused to open (crashed every time). I had an idea to check the processes (Activity Monitor in Utilities) and there were about 4 instances of compressor running even though I had closed it down. It may not help but worth checking to make sure nothing is affecting this. Also, there was a useful article on the Ken Stone webpage about trashing preferences. The quote on the page read " Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: "If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences." This is a pretty destructive, last resort fix, but for me, I didn't have a lot of preferences setup and as you say you don't use it much I would imagine you don't have either, well, nothing you can't reset like capture method, scratch disks etc. quite easily. Velma, you can find the full article here Good luck. Sean.
