widescreen delivery - help! Can't Post

I'm working my first HD project on my G5 using FCP Studio. I imported using the easy set up option, everything looks widescreen while I'm editing, and the sequence is set to HD (1440 x 1080) 16:9. Anamorphic isn't checked... I hope it didn't need to be! So... I'm ready to create DVD's and each time I try the video fills the screen and is squished. Not sure if I'm choosing the wrong compression or what the problem is.

Also, I haven't tried DVD Studio Pro (iDVD is so easy!) but because iDVD doesn't have widescreen menu templates, I'm afraid I have to take a crash course on the big boy. However, if I create a widescreen motion menu, couldn't I use that in iDVD (I have version 5)?

I do have all the manuals (and DVD Studio Pro is the biggest!) but to be honest, I'm getting lost in the technical details!

Everyone seems to be on holiday, but if you''ve been through this and can offer some advice... Thank You!

ok, this is just a guess here.. but when you say the project is set to HD.. I assume you are shooting in HDV? The settings are different for HDV and HD and the appropriate setting for HDV cameras is HDV.

Your DVDs being squished - are you using compressor? If not, you should be. I just would render the project out as a quicktime movie and drag that into compressor, selecting the appropriate setting. I assume you are downconverting? Then you want NTSC 16x9 Best Quality. Click on the inspector and make sure lower field first is selected. It really makes a difference in the final quality and for some reason needs to be done manually when you are working with HDV footage

hope some of this helps. HDV is a learning curve for sure.

If you exported it in widescreen, the problem probably is in iDVD. I know the newest version has widescreen capability. (not sure what number it is however) I would start the project out in iDVD then import into DVDSP and just sit down and learn it. It a superior program and once you do a few projects, it will become second nature. And you should use compreessor and a.pack to do your compressing. Cool
