We've been looking a few of them for VHS to DVD transfers. The industrial Pioneer looks really nice it has professional in and out and a hook up for a computer keyboard. I've never used it, but it looks like you can customized the menus pretty well. It is pretty expensive. Sorry can't think of model numbers at this point. Panasonic seems to have a couple of nice models that has multiple menu designs. A local access station uses them to copy government meetings live to DVD and seem happy with them.

I saw one in December mags that SOny is making. Plugs into TV as standalone recorder/player , but also has firewire input for connecting to computer. Looked like a do-everything unit. I think it had svideo, composite, component, firewire and s/pdif ins/outs About $300. small form factor (vertical)
