Business about to go bankrupt, what to do? Can't Post

I have a part-time video business that I run evenings and weekends. Problem is I have no paying jobs and bills are due.
Anyone have ideas on quick pick-up jobs or else just sell the equipment and cut my losses.
Frustrated with the whole deal,
John

Re: Hi-8 and beta sp [In reply to] Can't Post

personally I always think it is a smart idea to dub to Beta from Hi-8 instead of just going directly into Avid....the reason for this is that the Hi-8 does not have time-code and if for any reason you lost your digitized material or if you wanted to bump it up to a higher resolution after it was already edited you would have to batch-digitize and for this you need source material that has its own time code....I just think that digitizing on the fly is a risky business all around....but i guess that's just my opinion.

That's a real downer, John. While it'd be great to pull out of the slump with some video gigs, don't limit your focus needlessly. Get a job, any job...flipping burgers, if that's all you can find.

Doug Graham

Doesn't sound like you enjoy it enough to keep messin with it.
You can sell your gear on ebay quickly or there many boards with classifieds.
What are you selling?

Doug is right, however it is needlessly difficult to run video (difficult to hire help) when working else where. Doug however does exactly that (read-superman) and is just the man for pointers.
I have found various things to do but everything takes time.
I have started doing legal depositions and related work. Both video and audio.
I have also started mowing lawns. I know of kids 12 years old doing this making more money than I do, but not for long. Since I am the only guy in the area with my skills, I will tough it out and use the money to advertise the video/photography business.
I have also done photo montagues whatever in the past for everything from funerals to corporate awards nights.
What to chat, give me a gingle.

John,
Something else,
to come up with ideas, it would be good to know exactly what kind of video production you are interested in.

Re: UPDATE, some business has come in WHEW! [In reply to] Can't Post

Just picked up some jobs shooting football games in the fall.
Should be able to squeak by until then.
Its for a kids association. They are willing to pay me per game (3 total
on a Saturday for 9-10 weeks)
Any advice on what to charge for the games? I've seen on other posts people charging
$150 and up per game but I'm not sure that is affordable to them.
I am using a Sony VX2000 to shoot with.
I will be able to sell highlight videos at the end of season banquet.
Thanks for the advice and future advice,
John
