: Hello everyone, : I was just thinking about copyrighting a video I produced for a non-profit company : a few weeks ago, and I went through the video and saw some shirts people wore : have names of companies. One says EMS and there are others. If I do not have : permission from these companies can I still copyright my video? Thanks a lot for : any help! : T This answer REALLY doesn't fall into "marketing advice..." Hmm... on second thought, maybe it does. Non-profit company or not, when I have a shoot scheduled in a client's facilities where their employees are going to be videotaped, I always give the client a pre-production memo detailing what needs to be done before shooting commences. That includes such obvious things as "make sure floors and machines and facilities are clean," assigning someone from the company to accompany the crew, AND getting word to the employees that the production team is going to be shooting on such and such a date. We always ask management to suggest to the employees that they NOT wear their Harley Davidson or Hooters tee-shirts on filming day -'please wear non-branded clothing.' On several occasions, I've even rented a rack or two of lab coats or matching blue work shirts from a uniform rental company to try and keep things looking as nicely as possible. Oh -one more thing. During the course of a shoot, we always tell employees that for any reason, if they DON'T want to be seen on camera, to let us know and we'll replace them with someone who does. Steve
