Copyrighted music question. Can't Post

A friend and i are making a movie and we would like to know if we will be able to use copyrighted music in it.
The film will probbably be entered into minor local film contests.
We will also put the film on the internet.
Other than that we have no intention to make money from the film.
If it is unavoidable, who would we get hold of, to allow use of the music?
Email the band?

Re: Copyrighted music question. Can't Post

#1 securing the rights to popular music for use in video productions is a very costly and time consuming affair.
#2 You will need to secure many different types of licences,
most likely from many different sources for each and every copyrighted song that you wish to use.
#3 The penalties for using the music without proper permission can wipe you out.
#4 You do not need to make any money for unauthorized use for the use to be deemed an infringement.
#5 You would be wise to check out music that is provided by 'Buy out' music providers.
They offer an affordable and safe alternative.
