Creating DVD Photo/Video albums as a business Can't Post

Hello All,

I just joined this forum, it looks very informative.

I have been creating DVD Photo/Video Albums for family and friends using Sony Movie Studio. The presentations I have created have been well received all round so much so that I was told I should be offering my services as a business.

Before I jump right into this, I wanted to do a little research first. Is there anybody in this forum already offering this kind of service and if so are you finding it profitable at all?

Also, does anybody know if there are any websites or forums dedicated to this as a business?

Thanks for reading my post, I look forward to any responses.

Regards,

Ivan.

I don't think there are any dedicated forums for that niche, but many wedding and event videographers offer this type of product. See our own Wedding Forum.

Try Google. There are bunches of websites that sell this, some absurdly cheap. But if you doa good job and get agood rep, it could be a nice part time gig. Look into doing them for funeral homes too.

Mainly i have worked with photos from people at work, ive done 7 with just photos they have given me as well as ones i have taken.I have done 1 wedding with photos using some transitions(havent tried anything fancy yet),and a 75th b-day event for my stepdad.Since i will be getting better with the programs i already have i must start experminting a lot more.I will be getting at least 1 or 2 more editing programs(vegas 6.0 or avid dv xpress or edous 3pro or adobe premiere pro or possibly the studio ver of adobe).I also do morphing with photos although this is just a fun thing i do with my co-workers and they laugh and thats the main thing-it doesnt offend them.

I have done 3 photo stories of my family, they were all done using windows photostory 3.0 and they were my first attempt in this field.I recieved positive feedback and decided to pursue this area futher-hence the photo shoots at work and the wedding.

As far as any other events-not yet,i have 2 possible weddings for next year and 1 aniversary for next year, mayby a wedding or 2 in the latter part of this year if things work out.Im hopeing to get my website up in april and should have all my supplies and computer up and running by then as well, then i just have to sell myself and hope to bring in some business.

Cheers Kim HarnagelWink

Hello Kim,

Did you get the wedding gigs through your work or elsewhere? Sounds like you have some work ahead of you - have you thought much about marketing tactics to bring in business besides your planned website?

I've just completed a soccer video mix of photos and video footage of my son's soccer team. I plan on giving a copy to each team member in the hope it may bring future business.

I had another idea to help me get this business started by creating on-line video property tours for my local real estate market here in Canberra, Australia. I plan on using my clients (or agents) photos to create ken burns type videos featuring background music and narration to help market the properties.

Hope you get those wedding jobs - Keep in touch.

Regards,

Ivan :)

Greets Ivan-

Yes i purchased the wedding planner book and video from VU so i have been busy reading about all of the avenues to starting a business(only weekends for now-i work nights,so this limits my free time) also have you checked into Pro show producer by photodex? i am thinking of purchasing this for my still photography side of my business, you might want to check into this program -here is the link http://www.photodex.com/products/

I have a co-worker who has offered to help me get started in my business and he is the one who may be refering the 2 weddings next year, the other for this year is also thru a co-worker but it is iffy at best at this point.Do you do transitions at all?panning?with the programs you are currently using?

I would check into the "wedding video for Profit" book here at VU even if you have no plans to do weddings it is a great book with tons of information into the business and marketing side -would be good for any kind of venture.

Keep in touchCool Kim

Hi Everyone,
I have been visiting the site, joined today and responding for the first time! I too have been playing around with video stories for friends and family. I did a hurricane one on Francis, Jeanne and Wilma! I am now working on marketing my husbands landscape business on dvd. I have also been asked to do them for friends of people that I have done them for. I find it so much fun to do and creative. Anyways good luck!

Re: [spicerack] Creating DVD Photo/Video albums as a business [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello Kim,

Sorry for the delay, I wanted to spice up my productions so I went and purchased a How-To DVD on creating photo montages using 3D techniques. This has occupied my time but the results have been worth it. :)

I have used Pro Show Producer before which I believe is a good program for creating quick productions, but for creating really true artistic photo montage albums, I can't stop myself from using programs such as Vegas or After Effects. I am now looking for clients and was considering on doing some letterbox drops around my area just to test the waters; If anything, this will give me some time to exercise.

Although, videography is something that really interests me, I feel I don't have enough drive or commitment in filming weddings. I rather concentrate on a niche like the photo montage market; which is something I really enjoy creating.

Good luck with the weddings, I hope your business really takes off.

Regards,

Ivan.

I'm also beginning the photo montage business. I'm always looking for ways to market this new venture. If you have any ideas or would like to swap stories, please send me a pm.
