DVD business cards??? Can't Post

Hello,
Does anyone have any experience with creating DVD business cards? I am working on a bid for a corporate promotional DVD and they are thinking they want their 3-4 minute promo to fit on one of these DVD's. I dont have any experience making this type of thing, so any help would be great.
thanks
Eric

Hi !

I use Cd biz cards - the DVD brand is available just a little more pricy- You can find them in different online locations- the best deals are all on the west coast of the USA I find though... Try www.allmediaoutlet.com , that is where I get my supplies from - they are very good about price and everything ships right away ( usually takes about a week for it to come in though...being that I am on the East Coast! )
Also - I use Visual Composer as well- it is great for the CD's - BUT also having recently signed up for the Director's View online web theatre- I have been able to confiquire that on my CD's now instead! ... to hook up with that get in tough with Glenn Gabe at www.DirectorsView.com

Good luck with the job!

Consider that the whole DVD compatibility issue could cause your potential customers to get upset and use the DVD biz card as a frisbee.

CD biz card might be the best way to go.

I receive about 2 to 3 DVD's a month via mail by one company or another pitching a product that I MIGHT or MIGHT NOT be interested in. Some of these companies use special CODEC's that will NOT run on my machine or hang up on my TV set .... well, I'm not going to spend another minute researching how to get THEIR product to work - they just lost some potential business.

Something you need to consider - people are pretty fickle and if you don't make their viewing experience easy - they won't bother trying to figure out how to view your product demo if it will take them any more than a minute or two of troubleshooting.

Food for thought

I could be mistaken but a VCD (video cd) is simply a regular CD (mini or normal) with nothing but a video encoded to mpeg-1 format with a constant bit rate. But the cool thing is it can be played on a DVD player or as a file on your computer (with appropriate player, of course). The downside is the quality of the encoding. But as far as flexibility, it could be what you're looking for.

I stand corrected. But, it seems to me that encoding to mpeg1 with cbr would be the most portable format; if your dvd player can play it, good. If not, your computer probably can, regardless of operating system (important to us Linux users, irrelevant to the rest of the world).

You cannot go wrong with CD's. There are a variety of tools you can use to do this, but the best method that has worked for me now for the past 6 years, is to simply use an HTML based presentation and an auto run script. Any video that is put on the disc now is Windows Media with links for optional quicktime. In the past couple of years it has gotten even easier for me to do these utilizing Microsoft Office, but I am banking that you could use Open Office in the same fashion. Of ocurse you would also need an HTML editor. Or for the more simplistic, that program from Pixel Pops looks kind of neat.

That's a great idea. I would leave out the autorun thing since it depends on a certain operating system (it bugs me to no end when people assume I'm running windows, even more so when they assume I have Excel, Word, PPT). But I believe the browser will become the Esperanto of operating systems eventually and the browser is OS-agnostic. Yup, I'm an open source snob, but live in the real world nonetheless. Then, if the link were to an mpeg, I think it would work. Flash would also work, since there are free players for every OS.

I should have clarified a little. The autorun is set to open your "browser" no matter which computer system. Windows, Mac, Linux, doesn't matter. That's why I use HTML and basically create a website on a CD. If I include any documents such as contracts, those are included as PDF's or RTF if needed.
