Doing TV Commercials Can't Post

How would one get into doing commercials for TV? Does anyone here do them (stupid question) and how did you start? Any advice for someone trying to break in? Who do you approach etc? Would making some 20 and 30 second slots for practice and demo purposes be wise? Any thoughts, comments, suggestions, advice, please...thanks...

Doing Spec spots is great practice, and most people I have seen that do commercials have some in their reel.

Take a look here

I've recently gotten into doing TV commercials for local ethnic channels, so if you live in or near a large multicultural city that might be an option to consider. The main difficulty in this approach is that it can be hard to get your spots up unless you also take care of the advertising aspect as well or pair up with some agent. Also, it doesn't pay much initial (the actual money is in the advertising if the community is big).
