Downloadable Video Production Contract? Can't Post

Arghhh...

Hi all, I have searched for hours. I need a downloadable contract template for video production.

I don't need to be referred to a book or a lawyer, I just need a url where I can get a generic contract for video production. It is funny to me that I can go to online contract websites and find contracts for installing toilets, but I cannot find a film and video contract anywhere..... argh....

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am in a huge rush.

You can't find a cookie cutter contract because video production is a little more complex than installing toilets. Most producers will draw up their own proposal and contract on a job-by-job basis. Some things you might cover:

- scriptwriting. Estimated hours and rate, approvals, number of revisions included. Storyboarding.
- location scouting. Travel time and mileage, hours and rate.
- production. Equipment rental (video, audio, lighting, props), studio rental, hired talent, hired crew. Expendables. Travel time and mileage, hours and rates. Permits and production insurance. Locations and persons the client will be furnishing.
- post production. Estimated editing hours and rate. Special services such as animation, music composition and performance, voiceovers. Approvals and revisions.
- fulfillment. If you're providing numbers of copies, consider setup time, DVD authoring services, media costs, cover and label design, etc.
- overhead. The project's share of ongoing expenses like insurance, maintenance, office rental, postage, utilities...
- profit. What percentage?
- payment. 1/3 on script approval, 1/3 on completion of production phase, 1/3 on delivery, or some other scheme.

- copyright issues. Who owns what?
- changes clause. If someone wants to add something, how will the two of you determine the price? This is a good place to insert your rate card.
- disputes. What will you do if the two of you disagree?
- creative control. Related to the above. Is the client the boss, or are you free to exercise your judgement?
- schedule. How soon? Is there a bonus for coming in on or ahead of schedule? Is there a late penalty?
- liabilities. Are you responsible for weather, non-available CEO talent, tape dropout, equipment glitches, unplayable DVDs?

NOW: Having said all that, here's a link to a cookie cutter production contract. In my opinion, it's extremely vague and offers a whole lot of loopholes to get both you and the client in trouble. But here ya go: http://www.ispgroupinc.com/...duction_contract.htm

(I don't know why you had trouble finding one. An "Ask Jeeves" search on "video production contract" turned up this and a lot of other hits in about five seconds!) Good luck on your project.

See "Letters of Agreement for Ambitious Producers"
at
http://videouniversity.com/contofer.htm

They are not free. They are worth 100 times their cost.

Foo, I wish I'd remembered that one, Hal. Would've saved me a lotta typing!

And even though Mabou didn't want to be referred to a book, I'll add that Hal's video production course is another worthwhile investment.
