Editing for Equity Can't Post

Hey, I've got a situation where some guys want some shows edited, but are short on cash. I wouldnt be adverse to an equity position in the production company, but have no idea how to equate my work with an equity percentage.
I can deal in dollars, but equity is a very foreign thing to me.
Has anyone dealt in this kind of arrangement that can share a few morsels of wisdom?
Thanks!
KP

Run like hell. The odds aren't in your favor.
Just my opinion,
