General Questions Re: Equipment Recommendations Can't Post

Thank you Hal and everyone else for your responses re: SIV's. Incidentally, Hal,I want this new book your writing finished and on my desk first thing Monday morning. Understand!? I can't wait for it. What's the price going to be and when will it be available? Some general questions for a new guy:
- Is the Subsidy business the same as the Special Interest Video business? Never heard the term until I found the Elite Video site. Which is great, by the way.
- Can someone recommend a foreign converter that converts to PAL and SECAM. I find some on the net for between $500 and $1500. What's the difference in these units? Do they all do the same things?
- Is there a film to video transfer system that is a notch or two above the Ambico unit that I hear works, but with only marginal quality?
- Anyone know a good source for used 8mm and 16mm projectors in which to do film to video transfers?
- I found a unit on the net for $1500 that repairs CD's, DVD's, and PlayStation disks. Does anyone think that there is a market for disk repair? The company that sells it says you can start a route servicing music stores that buy and sell used disks. What do you all think?
- As someone just starting out to do a lot of post productions services, does anyone think there is a similar market for repairing VHS cassettes?
- What about restoring or improving damaged or old photographs or slides?
- Does anyone know about the SIV Association? How do I get in touch with them?
- Has anyone but me invested in any SIV videos that teach the viewer how to produce and market them? I have two. I got burned on the first one and loved the second one by the Adita Video brothers. I defy anyone to produce a more thorough, comprehensive video on the subject. Nothing fancy, but chocked full of great info.
- I understand that Art Polin has a book about making family history videos, but I don't know how to contact him to order one. Can anyone help?
- Has anyone tried Barb Besteni's books or videos? Your thoughts?
Thank you all and Hal, quit reading this and get back to writing that book!

Yes and no. Jon at Elite Video has come up with a way to produce special interest videos for *other* people who want to market their specialized knowledge via video. Both you and the "knowledge owner" profit from the deal. I recommend his tape on the subject.
As for Barb Besteni, she is a terrific marketer, and has both produced successful SIVs and built a successful business teaching others how to do the same. My personal feeling is that her tapes and courses are of the "fire you up for a day, but things slide back to normal in a week" sort of product, but many people seem to get benefit from them. Her marketing is intense, but, I think, honest.
