Help! Promotional Video??? Can't Post

I’ve been doing video work for eight years now. Just very part time. Mostly weddings and some fun short movies with my kids. I just found a job posting for a multimedia specialist at my local University and I meet all the requirements but it states “is responsible for the management and development of promotional videos and multimedia projects.”
I am looking for suggestions for a promotional video I could shoot and put together. For a demo DVD they want submitted with the Application. Nothing to intense I only have two weeks to get it done.

The word here Bruce is "multimedia". This means that you'll need to be able to handle video production, CD/DVD authoring, Internet media and have knowledge of the industry on a whole such as emerging technology and its applications.

Here is where I got lost (which is nothing unusual about that)

“is responsible for the management and development of promotional videos and multimedia projects.”

From what I can gather they are saying you will have to oversee the multimedia/video projects as part of your duties in class which is seperate from the demo reel they want in addition to your application.

For your demo reel do not use your home made movies this would make you look like a rank amateur. What you need is some flashy graphics like you would see on local and national television. These are images that impress the most. Try getting some tape featuring some of your city's best known landmarks and apply the graphics to these. Think of it as a promotional video for your city as a nice touch add in the University as well. Use your graphics to tell the story.

This may sound a bit intensive but you could probably knock out the city shots in 2-3 days then use the rest of the time editing and creating your graphics.

Just a thought, good luck buddy I hope you nail it.

Bruce let me apologize for the home movie remark I've been posting on boards like these and others long enough to know that sometimes what you type comes across wrong. The actual problem wasn't with your home movies it's the business. No matter how good they are and I am sure they are great people these days want graphics and lots of'em and with multimedia that increases tenfold.

Keep us posted on how it all goes buddy so we or at least myself want be left in suspense.
