Hiring Sales / Editing People Can't Post

I was approached by a gentleman who is not a newcomer to editing or marketing. He is looking for some work that will allow him to become more experienced, etc... I need a salesperson for the upcoming slow months, in hopes of creating business to live on. I am a small production company with 1-1/2 employees (plus myself) and sub-contractors for weekend work. The editing work that he would be working on would be work that he has sought himself. I do not know what to offer him. He said he would take only $10. per hour BUT he is going to have to find the work first.... do I offer him a percentage of the jobs? I don't want to lose him and I don't want to pay though the nose either.... I don't know if he is any good..... he talks the talk BUT can he walk the walk? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
