How do I charge sporting events? Can't Post

I will be videotaping/editing and burning to DVD amateur sporting events, ie hockey. I am looking at charging
$49.00 (CAD) per player. A typical hockey team consists
of 16 players. Do I charge a flat fee of $784.00 per team,
charge 49.00 per player on ice, 49.00 x minimum 10 players?
My problem is that NOT all parents would want to get a video OR
they may try and pull a fast one and just buy a few and make copies! My cost per DVD reproduced with artwork is $5.00 per
(NOT INCLUDING MY TIME) Should I just charge $25.00 per player
thinking EVERY parent will buy at that price point and just make
$20.00 per video which equals $325.00 profit for 3-4 hours work
which includes taping AND editing?
Thanks in advance,
Alex

I shot a freshman highschool football team for a whole season, produced a 18 minute highlight reel, sold vhs copies for $25 and DVD for $35. Sold a few but not every parent bought one and some complained (even one of the coaches) that my prices were too high. When I count my time, I made nothing on the deal.
Good Luck,
John

I shot my daughter's High School Drill Team this past year. I produced a 60 minute video tape and gave it away for free to over 70 girls. I am just getting my video business started, so I thought of this as an advertising cost. I received a total of 2 calls from parents thanking me for the video that I did for their daughter. I've also run into several of the girls both with and without their parents around town since then and they haven't said a word about it.
The 2 that responded said they loved it; that they cried and had chills etc...
This told me that if I shoot any school functions that I will never depend on selling tapes to make a profit. I will get the money for my time and let the organization sell it for how ever much they wish. Don't overestimate the value of your video services when it comes to this kind of stuff.
Having a kid in high school myself I understand that parents are hammered to death with request for money. This can't help our efforts.

When you give you work away, thats what it's value becomes for your (and others) future work.
