How do you get into travel and wildlife videography ? Can't Post

I was in Brazil last Feb for Carnaval. My cousin was friends with some of the guys
with one of the tv stations and I got guest access to some of the shows and got
some neat footage. To make a long story short, whats a good way to branch off into
other areas of videography besides weddings ? I really enjoy diversity.

Did you take your camera with you to Brazil and shoot some footage? If so, now all you have to do is to edit into something that people will want to watch, sell it and bingo! You're now a travel videographer. Bottom line is that nobody is going to pay you right from the start to travel the globe and shoot wildlife/travel videos. You pretty much have to create a demand for it or at the least, show somebody that you are capable of shooting/editing outstanding footage.

If you find you can't sell your documentaries to one of the broadcast or cable outlets, there are other options.
- Market them yourself. Check out http://www.netflix.com for an interesting business model.
- Go on the lecture circuit with 'em. If you're good at public speaking, you and your videos can get hired by various organizations to give talks. Check with your local Speakers' Bureau.

Hi guys,
My wife and I are on this same path. I thought I'd share what we've
done so far to request your feedback and advice. Perhaps our
site will offer ideas to others as well.
We've put 120 free Florida nature video clips online, as a way to
build a mailing list.
Any feedback of any kind (no holds barred, we're not delicate)
will be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Phil

I live and work in Tanzania, (East Africa) in the tourism sector and am a 'video hobbist' who wishes he could give up his real job and do video full time.
I have several ideas about setting up a business videoing peoples safaris, but as a 'hobbyist', I have many gaps in my filming/editing knowledge and have limited capital to invest.
I do think there is great potential for this kind of thing both from; 1. the personalised video you would sell, and 2. from the stock footage one would accumulate.
However, as with everything, the devil is in the details.
I would be very interested in chatting (online or off) with others to get some ideas and possible opportunities.
Even if it is only to keep my dreams alive:-)
