: I have seen sites that build stedicams and skateboard dollies. I have built my own lapel mikes, mixer and collapsable copy rig. So my simple question is: "Is there any interest in such a site?" for those of us who cannot afford pro prices. I'm already designing a 15M track and dolly, and have many ideas on the cards. But is the idea worth pursuing? : You can give me your feedback here, or email site_idea@pegasusvideo.freeserve.co.uk Not to be a wet-blanket, but the trouble with making things yourself is that it takes a tremendous amount of time, and you end up with something probably not as functional as the commercial version. Beyond that, it tends to *look* jury-rigged, and if you are trying to impress corporate clients, this is the kiss of death. You would have to have a lot of experience or aptitutude--and tools--to pull it off. It ends up, for me anyway, that I think it's more efficient to earn the money some other way and then buy the equipment. It *is* possible, however, to save money buying used, if you're careful. I think building your own equipment could be a great hobby, if you were really into it as a hobby, and I admire people who can do it on this basis...so maybe there are enough hobbyists in this area to support a site.
