Legal aspects of video shooting in public Can't Post

Hi,
Where would I learn about the legal aspects of video? I especially want to know about shooting video in pubic places that would include people (the public in general) and what releases I would need. The focus is not on the people, but the places. For example, a video on San Francisco. Would you need a release from every person that happened to end up on tape? Also, do you need to have permission from the manufacturer of every product that appears in your video? I would like to think that there is a good book or source to go for information.
Thank you,
Craig Busch
