Media Rates for commercials Can't Post

I've been asked to do a commercial for a client. I'm in somewhat of a small market. We have 3 news stations including UPN. What is the easiest way to access a discount on advertising rates for any commercial we bring to these networks without dealing with individual account reps. Should I contact the person in charge of the sales department to negotiate. Any advice would be helpful.

With cable advertising I deal with a specific sales rep that is in charge of Advertising agencies. This is what you will need to set yourself up as. Then you can start getting the discounts.

So basically network with an advertising agency instead of contacting the various television stations.

NO! The stations will set you up an account as an advertising agency. Then you will get the discounts. You will need to call them and ask how to set your company up as an ad. agency. Normally you will have to fill out a simple credit application and sign a contract. Make sure you do this before you take on any clients. Because you will need to hold your clients to the same rules that the station is holding you to ie. amount of time for cancellations, minimum spot orders etc...
