: These are complex and difficult issues, but the simplest advice is: : Any time you want to make a copy of copyrighted music, you must have permission to do so, whether your end use is for profit, for widespread public distribution, or for family use. The fact that this is often ignored doesn't change the law. : There is no reason to think that because you're not using copyrighted material, or popular songs, that you are going "second class". Buyout music libraries offer excellent quality work. SmartSound allows you to compose custom tracks to length. Acid lets you combine tens of thousands of loops to make unique music. It was used to score the Oscars, fer cryin' out loud. Or you can hire some talented local musicians to write and perform an original score. You have lots of options. : Regards, : Doug Graham Doug, Thanks for your insight and advice. I may be a little too stubborn here but I still would like to get more info on how to access copyrighted music. I've read that there are two main publishing companies (ASCAP? and BMI?). Is that correct? I'd like to do some of my own music creation at some point but building a video business around a full time job does not allow that right now. As I build a reputation I would definitely use local musicians. My emphasis right now is to put together the best quality video with the highest quality music. I care more about the finished product than the money I can make. I figure that will take care of itself. People will pay for quality. However, I have a limited budget in both time and money to create and pay for music. One last comment. I've purchased buyout music from top of the line buyout companies. No disrespect to their efforts, but I won't use it. The music just doesn't compare (IMHO)and I will only use the best. Again, thanks for your response. Bob
