Music for company vidoe Can't Post

I would like to use a popular song as background for a video that will be shown one time to a group of our company execs? Can I use it without violating copywrite laws?

It'a a big No-NO in the corporate world. I was recenly involved in doing a corp. video.
We found that there are two license types. One is called a "Site License", it allows you to play the song in
your auditorum. You can play it indepentently of the video as the video plays. In other words it can't be physically married to the video.
The other license allows you to combine together with the video. Expect to pay big bucks we were quoted around $5,000 for the song
"We Built this City". Obviously we opted to go with Royalty Free Music.
Good Luck!

Hi Jack,
As much as I agree with Doug for his expertise on video from this forum and other aspects
of this crazy business we are all in, I would disagree to an extent with Dougs answer.
I believe it is OK to do so as long as it is for private use and
no further. If it is shown to the pubilc in any way than positively not.
Again I show no disrespect to Dougs answer at all.
Thanks, jes

Wrong, while ASCAP & BMI will often look the other way for wedding videos, not so for corporate use.
They don't consider a COMPANY private. It's a public domain and it's not worth the LAW Suit if they decide to make an issue of it.
Also, keep in mind, that you have no control over where that video will be shown. Not worth the risk.
Just my two cents!

I have to agree here. You can not use popular music for a corporate event. ASCAP and BMI will look for this type of violation, and they will come down hard on the corporation. The corporation will claim ignorance and blame you. Don't risk it.
