: A well-known racetrack has asked me to produce a marketing video for them. This would involve attending and videotaping several major events throughout the year and editing the final footage. I am assuming they also want narration (script), BG music, etc. : This racetrack also markets nationally. So my question is : Should I charge a flat fee for my services, per units sold (royalties on the production), half-day and/or day rate for shooting and editing ? Should I go with VHS, VCD or DVD ? : The video will be directed to race car fans (mainly). And this particular racetrack has un-Godly admission fees, although I would probably gain access to the track for no charge (I'm assuming). : Need suggestions. Thanks. : -KS Hi Ken, Because this is through out the year you really cannot charge them a flat fee, as you dont really know your expenses. You can figure out a price per finished minute I charge $1,500.00 this covers all costs. This doesnt sound like they are going to sell it, so you can forget about royalties, remember, the footage is theres, they hire you to shoot. I have clients that have me shoot for their marketing videos and I use VHS and DVD. Still plenty of VCR out there and its still the convienience of this that keeps me using VHS. Also, you might want to do special sections on the DVD menu. inteviews special interest etc. works great and looks impressive for the client. Make sure they cover your entry costs and get it in writing. I have done quite a few of these marketing videos for sports teams, PGA events and IT companies so if you need more info contact me off the board. Sounds like a fun project! Remember: marketing videos should be no longer that 4-5 minutes tops! upbeat, fun and informative otherwise you loose the audience and your clients objective. jes
