Request for proposal - Infomercial and profit sharing Can't Post

A father and son are interested in creating an exercise training video that includes cooking tips. The father is a personal trainer and the son is an executive chef.
These two guys are passionate about this. We could tell by talking to them that they have been thinking about this for a long time.
The goal was to sell the video using TV infomercials. They didn’t have much money and were interested in a profit sharing deal.
They both have access to a very nice kitchen and gym so a studio is not necessary.
Both will star in the video and supply their best clients to participate. (Some are very famous!) The only time we could shoot is after hours –After 7 PM on a weekend!
After talking to them we figured the final videos would be 60 min (workout video) and 45 min (cooking video.) The end result would be 2 tapes, one for workout the other for cooking. They don’t have a script so we are not sure exactly how long.
We are new to the business and have not had a job this big. We are considering hiring seasoned cameraman to do the shooting and perhaps hiring someone to do the editing also. We told them that we are not Marketing professionals, just videographers. They are looking for someone to help market this. Where could we find someone who has experience marketing video via infomercials?
Is this the right way to approach this? How do we give an accurate proposal without a script? In regards to profit sharing, how would you quote that? Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks!
Mark

Ok, here is my thoughts. On the profit sharing, that is all up to you. If you can afford to gamble with your time, and you think it could do well, then go for it! After all, if it is shot on a weekend evening, what will you be losing?
As for bringing in a seasoned cameraman and editor, they may not be so willing to do the profit sharing, so you may be stuck doing it yourself. Considering that the client can't afford to pay, I don't think they will complain. I would spend your next Saturday watching some workout informercials to see what they do. Examine the shots, and the editing. I think you may be surpeised by how basic the stuff can be. You will notice that the amount of video for a 60 minute infomercial is conciderably less than 60 minutes, as they often repeat, repeat, repeat the same stuff.
As for the marketing, you will need to get the ad paced in multiple markets, and depending on how much they want to spend, there are many options. You could do a multiple cable market buy and target your demographic, or you can buy on a network. Either way, this can be a bit pricey.
As for the actual selling of the video, you would need to set-up a distribution with a warehose. They will actually provide you with the storage, the 800 number and the shipping. The costs of these services are surprisingly minimal (hence the Chia Pet's $19.99 price).
If you have any questions, or need help feel free to contact me, as we do these types of media buys, as well as set up the distribution.
good Luck!
