Sample Business Plans for Video Producers Can't Post

Hi,
I'm serious about starting my own video production company.
I would like to know if there's site I can go and download
sample business plans. Also, I like to know the best software
for producing my own plan.

There IS business plan software out there...but I've found the best tools for making a business plan are a pencil and some paper. Or a word processor and a spreadsheet program, if you really like using them. I'm not familiar with any sample business plans specifically for video production, but any business plan will cover the same sorts of things:
- What sort of business do you intend to do? (Weddings? Legal Video? Corporate video? Freelance documentaries? Commercials?)
- What investment is required?
- How will you finance the investment? (cash, loan, grant?)
- What are the ongoing expenses?
- What income can you expect?
- What licenses and recordkeeping are required?
- Do you need training or certifications?
- What marketing will you do?
- What's the competition like?
- What growth do you project for the business?
I'd recommend both a long term (five year) and a short term (six months to one year) plan. Every three to six months, go back to your plans and see what needs updating. Are you coming along as you'd predicted? Are any changes required?
Regards,
Doug Graham

Re: Sample Business Plans for Video Producers Can't Post

Many counties have a department for small business assistance. The department might be under a name such as "Financial Planning & Economic Development". They, together with the Small Business Administration (SBA), offer classes in helping you prepare business plans, marketing plans, etc... These classes are typically around $30-40. However, I would definitely contact an organization known as SCORE (Senior Corp of Retired Executives). As volunteers, they offer FREE guidance services based on their real-world experiences. If you can't find the nearest SCORE office in your phone book, call your county offices or local SBA office. SCORE will initially ask what you need help with, then find one of their retired executives with expertise in that area. They will meet with you one-on-one, and will work with you as often as you need.
