Shooting live bands Can't Post

Need info on what we need for shooting local bands and producing demos for them to pass around to interested parties.

try to grab audio from the house's mixer if ya can.
Make friends with the venue's go to guy asap and you'll find many challenges won't be challenging at all.
Electronic Press Kits are alot of fun and have room for much creativity. Enjoy and best of luck.

Most decent mixers these days include a CD burner. In the one I shot they gave us the CD and we used it, along with the 4 cameras that were covering the event and it worked out great. Here is a sample:

Hmmm....that's pretty darn good, especially for a live performance. I would be hard pressed to find a local band that sounded that good here, I think.

Nice work.

There are a million variables that will determine how you should record them. What type of music and how it is performed(amplified or acoustic), the number of band members, the type of location, if there will be a live audience or controlled ambience, etc.

If in a club or other live venue, get that feed from the sound board. Try to record as many tracks (individual channels of audio) as possible, because no matter how good you seem to mix it live, it always sounds different in the studio.

If you are limited to mic'ing the gig yourself, remember that all instruments will record differently (volume and timbre) and should be treated seperately. Drums are always a problem (volume wise) and should be compensated.

This is really a difficult subject to try to explain without additional info and another 10 pages of text.

Just be sure that you use a good set of headphones (closed cup for ambient sound rejection) and a good mixer/microphones...... and practice.
