Support Your Local Public Access Channel - STOP The Shutdown Can't Post

Some of you may know there are two bills currently being debated in congress; if passed would mean the complete shut down of all Public Access channels throughout the country. HR 3146 & S1349 are on the floor now.

Public Access TV isn't just about providing local content, it's about freedom of the press. If Washington is successful at silencing the voices of local producers then who will be next?

Nice to see they're doing for the cable industry what the "Telecommunications Act" did for radio and tv.

Re: [casvideos.com] Support Your Local Public Access Channel [In reply to] Can't Post

You do know that a bill was past several years ago that freed cable companies from being legally forced to offer the public access to a public channel, right? You can't get your own stuff onto public access cable channels in a lot of cities already. I know three cities in Louisiana where there is no public access channel period! And you can't challange them, as they are not legally bound to provide it anymore. So, what exactly are these two bills going to do? Make cable porviders NOT have the option to offer public access or not? What do these bills actually do?

Our New list of Public Access Stations:

In doing the research, we found several municipalities have dropped their public access stations. If your town has dropped its Public Access Station, call your town hall and complain. Get involved.

Unfortunately it is true some PEG channels have already been shutdown.
What I have learned, is the reason behind the loss of those channels is because they were A) poorly managed B) could not demonstrate their value to the community.

It's time for every PEG operator to step up show what an asset your work is to the community.
