Time Date code questions Can't Post

Good day one and all,
I'm looking at the best way to encode a time/date code onto a videotape on the spot. Can anyone recommend a good time/date code generator that is portable or a s-vhs deck that will do this in a high quality format. I've seen the time lapse vcr's for sale but they all seem to be either a standard vhs format or record in long formats (900 hours isn't a requirment). I shoot with a Canon XL-1 and the time/date code captured isn't output to a backup VCR.
Thanks,
Steven

Re: Time Date code questions Can't Post

Steven,
I am not familiar with the Canons, but my Sony outputs the "display" info through the S-Video & Composite ports
(the display info being some combo of timecode/date/titles etc..(if so enabled)) during record or playback. There is
a menu option on the Sony that enables this (choice is to display info on Viewfinder or Viewfinder/Video Out.) You might check
to see if there is a similar option on the Canon.

Re: Time Date code questions [In reply to] Can't Post

I'll try and help you.
As far as I know, the gl1,xl1(s) and the sony VX2000 will not show the
time/date externally when recording, only when playing back. This is a
problem when shooting depositions when you need to record the date on the
external VCR's.
It seems to me that I remember seeing on a PD-150 about a year ago that it
displayed the time/date when it was recording.
But buying a new camera probably isnt an option. Sooooo.
I would go to Markertek.com and look for time/date generators.
Horita has some small and good ones. (so I hear) They will run you from
150 - 350. I think you can get some real nice ones that do some fancy stuff
but your going to pay the price.
If this is for legal depositions, let me know and I'll send you the URL to
a real good "legal video" community on Yahoo. They can answer anything when
it comes to that.
Hope this helps.
I included a URL below to a generator on markertek's web site.

Sorry, I misunderstood your question, you can display the RUNTIME of the tape as it's
recording on my Sony in HH:MM:SS format, but not the date and time of day.
