Re: [Ranko] Videography Marketing...Ideas? [In reply to] Can't Post

Not the whole flow of the wedding only the flow of the filming. Yes maybe one day soon there will be mergers between different camps to consolidate into a all in one wedding company. I've recieved a few requests from churches in the last month who would like to provide their own video services and need equipment and education. Since most of the larger churches already broadcast live it makes sense they would move into this direction.

Re: [mvmaker] Videography Marketing...Ideas? [In reply to] Can't Post

Having seen a great deal in the WEVA crowd and Broadcasting crowd for a very long time now, I can see some good points being raised. But, at the end of the day, just like the car business, there are many different types of clients, and there are different distinct markets.

On the market side, you have the high end, the middle, and the low end.

On the client side, you have those that are want a peaceful day all to themselves, then you have those that want to please their family, and then you have those that want to put on the grand show. The problem with the client side is that any type of personality can fit into those 3 categories.

A good businessman (forget about the videography part) will take the time to evaluate his clients wants and needs to see if his business and style match the clients.

A bad businessman will think of his paycheck first and then tell the clients what he will do instead of listening to what the clients are asking for.

I need to pay my bills like everyone else but if I think I cannot honestly give the clients what they desire, I state it so up front and offer them a referral. I would rather be honest and lose the business than to not meet expectations, regardless of what style I think a wedding should be shot in. My number one rule is to under promise and over deliver.

I have worked with some very creative (there is good creative and bad creative) broadcast editors in the past. Some of them couldn't think outside of the box, while others, paid attention to detail. I have also seen the same of the WEVA crowd. Everyone has their own style and I strive to look into the positive and creativity of each persons style.

In the end, no matter what kind of editor you are, you are editing because you enjoy it, because you like the power to evoke emotion or thought, and because you yearn to be different and creative. Now all you have to do is learn to also be a business man. Once you do, you will earn more, gain more respect from your clients and your peers, and become more at peace with the type of living you earn.

Just .02 cents from a silly old fart.
