Jim, I hope you don't mind I moved your question over to the Marketing and Business forum. The answer depends on your contract. You DO have a contract, don't you? It should specify who owns the copyright to the work. Whoever it is, it does NOT depend solely on "who has the tape in theii possession". For most work of this sort, standard practice is for the client to own the rights to the work. However, if you are an independent contractor, and your contract doesn't state otherwise, YOU own the copyright...but on the other hand, you may need to get signed talent releases from your clients, if you don't want to get sued for using their likenesses without permission, let alone their music. If you have no contract, or your contract is unclear on who owns what, I suggest you meet with your clients and discuss the matter. Try to come to a mutually agreeable solution, before anybody starts making DVDs or marketing anything. Everyone will be a lot happier that way. Regards, Doug Graham Panda Productions
