filming to sell, what permits, licenses, so on Can't Post

I am preparing to film various events at a private/public beach this summer. I plan to take orders for sales immediatly following the events. The orders will be mailed out the following week after the masters have been edited and dubbed. I will also sell copies of previous weeks events. I am aware of the release forms I will need from the people in the events so my question is this: Do I need any special licenses to sell MY original footage and do I need a vendors license of some sort. The beach is a privately owned lake which is open to the public for an admission charge. Any thoughts or experience would be helpful.

Hi New Guy,
In a public area you do need to file for a permit to shoot. Most likely
you will also need permission by the owner of the grounds. In addition check to see if you will need insurance
I did small venue like this and had some one (a spectator) trip on a
light cable, no visual damage to his person but when I recieved a
letter from his attorney it cost me $500.00 to settle. A real chicken----,
way to get a few bucks, but I learned.
Check with the city you are filming this project in to be sure.
Good luck, Jes

Re: filming to sell, what permits, licenses, so on [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for all the info. I have been studying public filming, releases, newsworthy events and documentaries for a few months now.. I have read that if a person (one featured in film) has knowledge that they are being filmed and that said footage may be sold they cannot sue for royalties, damages, so on... unless they specifically request that you do not film them. At the location I will be filming there are anywhere from 15 to 50 cameras at the events. This should portray the obvious fact that some of those tapes may be sold. Is this a correct assumption? (I hate to assume anything in this biz!) I am hoping to hear from someone that knows about this. If possible I prefer to skip spending the money on permits, LLC formation, attorneys, and so on. I appreciate the help please keep it coming.
