I think it depends on the situation IMHO.... I am in the same boat..... For major companies, where there is paperwork and a processing that has to be done to cut acheck, 30 days is acceptable... But for smalltime folks, who usually get 1/2 of THEIR money upfront anyways, I push for payable-on-receipt.... The way I figure it, if they are collecting half of THEIR money before anything is even done, why should *I* extend free credit to THEM?? If you or I go to the store for blank tape or for a computer upgrade so we can edit, will the store give us 30-60 days same as cash??? Doubtful...and if they do there is a credit card involved. I am not in business to extend free credit. SOME folks do it another way....lift the rates in general, and then give a 10% discount "if paid by" a certain date, usally 15 days. That is a good "meet in the middle" solution.... DZ : When you guys subcontract out jobs, or take on a job of your own, how long do you give a client to pay up? Most of the people I work for, aside from brides, I have known for a long time, but I am tired of waiting up to six months to get paid!!! what I need is some sort of contract, and I don't know where to start. Can any of you who may have something email it to me as either a pdf or rtf file? Beginning this year, all of my clients are going to sign on the dotted line.
