Length often depends on the market you are trying to reach & the story you're trying to tell. Remember, TV ad time is sold by the second, often in 5 sec units (mostly), with the usual lengths of 10, 15, 30 & 60. The vast majority are 30 seconds. Remember, no matter the length don't run long! 10, 20 , 30 or 60 seconds, not one frame longer! On spots I've done I usually put a 10 frame or so fade at the head & tail. Looks a little less abrupt. For one client I made a 60 sec spot, then suggested I re-edited it down to a 30 & a 10. You can make additional money by re-editing without having to re-shoot. How much to charge is a really good question. Is the client writing the script? Do they want professional on-camera talent? Professional voice-overs? What is their budget? Event DV magazine had a two-part article on the cable ad market. Here's part 1 (link). Good luck! Steve Godsey, CLVS No, I do not have attention deficit issues, just – Oh, Look! There goes a Rabbit!
