video montage business, what's realistic for profits? Can't Post

I have some basic editing experience and software and have been considering starting a video montage business. Is it posible to create these videos on a MAC with I movie and premiere? Is it any more complicated than this? How profitable can a business like this be? What are the pitfalls? How long does it take to make a video like this (based, for example, on 100 pictures) Where do you really make the money? What are the best ways to market this service
I'd appreciate any input.

it all depends on how much time you spend putting any one video together.
if you are just going to create it to look like a slide show, and charge less, then you can do mass volume, so to speak and make a good bit of money.
If you are going to be creative and process the pix in photoshop, then create motion and such you can spend upwards of 10-15 hours on a 5-10 minute video. That includes rendering, makeing changes, rendering again, dubbing, labeling and creating a custom jacket.
It will take a long time for this to get off of the ground.

As long as you charge by the hour, you'll always make money. Even when they revise it.
If you wanna quite bids per project, estimate how many hours it'll take, add a few onto that and multiply by your hourly rate.

what would be a realistic rate to quote per hour? I'm just going after your basic consumer...most of the other companies I saw doing this were charging per photo.

As much as ya can. Places like walmart now offer slide shows with the photos they develop for a wee small fee so your selling point will be only what you bring to the table. Custom music, a song written about the people in it, effects, layers, transitions that are not cookie-cutter, ect.
I've seen people do em for nothing and I've seen em charge as much as $250 per hour for this.
What are you worth?

I have got to be honest, I have found that there is not much business in montages.
I advertise them, and even have displays in a number of stores, but haven't had many
prospects, and I can do them pretty quick (with motion) and have a low pricepoint.
