*** VIEW FINDER ON THE FRITZ **** Can't Post

My VX-1000 has been FLAWLESS FOR OVER FOUR YEARS but now I have
a problem with my color view finder. It works as long as the viewfinder is in the down and locked position...but as soon as I raise it the view finder goes off...what GIVES!!! Any help would be a blessing...I hate to spend $500 on a simple repair.

Mike,
Your help was indispensable!!! I gave my engineer friend the layout you
gave me and he had fixed the problem in TWO hours and did it for FREE!
I went from paying $55.00 for the part and $90.00 in labor ($270.00 if they had
to 'send it out) to paying nothing and having a potentially HUGE problem into a
very minor inconvenience. My friend told me that it was relatively easy to fix
and with the right tools the lay person could do it. The way SONY described it
the whole process would have been very expensive and time consuming. It could
not have worked out better. I was really worried because the SONY dealer here
in Hawaii takes forever and there work is sub par. Thanks again for the help
and let me know if I can re-pay the favor.
George
P.S. All my friend had to do was fix two (2) bad wires in the ribbon and
PRESTO...no problem...I didn't even need to buy the part
