Re: [Sir Larry of D] VX1000 Vs. PD150 [In reply to] Can't Post

The VX1000 is quite a bit older than the PD150/VX2000. My 1st VX1000 was purchased in 1995. BTW, I still have it and it works fine. HOWEVER, it can not hold a candle to a 150/2000 or 170/2100. The 150 (I have and use 2 for many events) has better glass, better chips, better controls, better everything. It is more expensive than a 2000/21000 and certainly more than a VX1000. If you are seeing PD150s for qround 1500, RUN from it as it probably has mega hours, is grey market or just not a right piece.
You do not specifiy your budget so I can only say that if you can find a DECENT 150 you are far better off than the 1000. Again, I used to own a couple of the 1000s, used them extensively and still own 1. I have shot about 175 weddings over the last 3 years with 2 PD150s with ZERO problems. I have also done many many corporate events and shot TV spots with them again with out problem.
Just my opinion having owned and owning both cameras, try to go for a DECENT 150. BTW, after about 1000-1200 hours the heads and tape mechanism will probably need to be replaced-cost about $800 for the PD150-just something to keep in mind and in the wallet.
OH yes, one other thing. The PDseries (150/170) is generally considered to be a step upfrom the VX series(2000/2100) The PDs are sold under Sony, Professional Division and the VXs in the consumer division, however the glass and chips and circuitry virtually the same in the 2 series of cameras. The order of value of the cams is VX1000 (now discontinued) VX2000 replaced by the VX2100, PD150 replaced by the PD170.

I agree with Don. I have both cameras and the PD150 is significantly better than the VX1000.
