.3x fisheye for VX-2000 attention please! help needed Can't Post

Hello,
attention anyone that can help me, i am planning on purchasing the century optics .3x fisheye for my vx-2000 sometime around may-june, i will be filming skateboarding, i have been for a number of years now and purchased my vx2k almost a year ago. No complaints about the camera, i have talked to 411, onVideo etc.. seeing as that i know some people out in that area and they are interested in my footage from aroudn the cleveland area, however i have decided to upgrade finally to the death lens because i know thats the highest quality and i know that is what the VZines are looking for, my question to anyone out there who can help is that, the .3x fisheye for the vx2000..is it worth the investment?? does it have the same clarity as i see so noticibly with the vx-1000? the thing i have noticed with my fisheye now is that it is in no way as clear as the .3x, i have had the opportunity to use the .3x on a vx-1000 many times, and have loved what i saw. Im looking for excellent clarity, no vignetting, and a good amount of barrel distortion as on the vx1000, is this lens going to give me what i need and is it going to be worth the investment?? I would appreciate anyone out there who has either used the .3x on the vx2000 or that has the lens on the 2000 that can help me esecially if you film skateboarding, that would be the greatest of help to me, also if you have any pictures from the .3x on the vx2000 i would so greatly appreciate that..as soon as possible if anyone could reply i am really looking to make the move to this lens soon so please reply with any good info you have thank you a bunch!
Sincerely
Dan

YES. Just make sure that you buy the bayonet style that is made for the vx-2000. I would recommend ADORAMA.COM because they sell it for $670. Good luck!

Dan- think of it like this, without the .3, what else have you got? that sh!t is a standard tool in filming for skating. i think vince ordered his already, but i am not sure. i know he replaced his 1k with a 2k and loved the low light images, but that was only a few weeks ago.
nice job on tarkeys part, the blue and orange lighting with the clapboard and all the candles was a little much, the candles seemed a bit too much. not sure i understand how all the music mixed together, eye of the tiger, some MC on the mic, meatloaf, i dont think i get the brother on the mic, even though he says 'cleveland' and greg throws up the dub, but, the part is good anyway.

First let me say I don't have a vx2000, but i do have a Gl1 with the .3x. I would definitely say the lens is pretty much a necessary thing if your filming skateboarding. I don't regret getting one and I don't think you will either. Quality is very good, better than any other wide angle lens you will find out there for your camera.
On a side note. I think people are becoming way too obsessed with using this lens. I see it being overused alot, and i think a lot of people don't really film that well with it. People need to be more creative and start shooting without it more. However, I do think that this lens is a must have, people just need to know when to leave it in their camera bag.
Also, you don't have to wait until u get the .3 to send footage in to 411. I just saw 44 and there are a ton of shots in there without a fisheye(which i'm very happy about!!!).

Jurgen,
yeah thanks, but in a way...im embarrased, i did not chose the music as you can probally tell, if i had to choose the music the part would have far surpassed the way it was, i actually hated having to use what greg told me but i wasnt about to be a dick about it, i begged him for months not to use meatloaf, and the thing with the candles and what not was not my idea, it was very hard to work with but i did what i could, i had to work in editing things to meatloaf which quite obviously isn't the best choice of song as anyone can tell because i have been editing for quite some time now, and i know what songs would have made for more intricate editing and more power,so next time im cutting greg off, and doing what i want cause i dont like to be embarrased by his dumb choice of music, anyways, yeah i think i will be getting the .3x arround mid may-beginning of june, and also good job on rob and joes part too, i thought the intro to joes part, and the quick "mob" flash was very tastefull, ha ha, well anyways..thanks for the help peace

For us non-skateboard folks....what is 411 ? and is 44 a film?
Just curious. By the way, have you looked at some of the effects possible with the Cokin filter system?

411VM is a skateboard video magazine. They put out a new video every 2 months. Since they come out so often they are just titled by number. Issue 44 is the newest one out.
I haven't played with any filter systems as of yet but i would definitely like to start. Any suggestions?

focus video 2001 [In reply to] Can't Post

yea, the best part is joe and jim came with me to pittsburgh to edit the piece after we got back from tampa in january. the kickflip at the stadium is so bad, but joe wanted to use it since there are shots of him not being able to do it in the video. the whole idea was the kalis/stevie combo, the 'homie to the heart' was just a joke, we went even going to use it, but it was the most natural sounding thing i could get rob to say on tape, he gets real choked up when he talks on camera. i guess joe was more of a comic relief, but he had more in this video than the last one. i told him i am not filming him doing any more FSNS's. he had a regular one in WTFB, and a switch one in FOCUS as part of his line, so that trick is done. all the footage of joe and rob i had was filmed in 3 days. except the stuff mike gave me. did greg try to go back to akron and redo the gap? i saw some slams, then old footage of him landing it. i guess he didnt make it on the re-shoot.

Cokin has a variety of special effect filters, such as multi-image (5,7, 13, and 25 facets), mirage and mirror effect, star, radial zoom, etc. and two types of "speed" filters. #216 has an offset center region without parallel distortion, #217 has one side normal and the other side disorted with fine parallel lines, giving the appearance of blured motion. I would think this would be a natural for skateboarding! All filters are made of optical acrylic, so they can create effects which would be very costly with glass.
Problem is these filters are hard to come by, and it takes weeks even on a special order. They are not cheap either (made in France) #217 runs about $40.00.Average price of the more common filters is $15.00. Most large camera stores carry the filters, 52mm screw-in holder and the catelog. Check it out...might be just the new look your after.... and good shooting.

Jurgen,
actually, those slams on the akron bank are from 2 septembers ago when we first met mike and found out he filmed yeah he ate it pretty hard, and he never landed it the second time around..and then they welded the chain to the poles so we couldnt take it off..and thennnn..he said he wanted to go back and do it with the chain, however..i got arrested at central and if i'm ever caught there again i get big court fines and stuff so i cant go back, anyways im working on a video to send to 411 cause i wanna get that going, i also think im getting the death lens in may i cant wait for that i've wanted that for so long but havent got around to getting it, and im working on a video for this summer that i dont think im going to alow greg to pick his music for..ha ha..so thats going to be an all summer project, but i gotta get out to pa one of these days my friends girlfriend lives there in pittsburgh and im probally gonna head out there with him do a little filming, so thats about it, yeah rob and joes part was funny i think, got me laughin at the premiere, the ping pong table part and rob all actin ghetto for a sec in the car was just off the hook, well anyways..i'll talk to you later peace

Adorama has all the filters. $8.50 to $20.00 max. The prices I quoted are what you will pay in a camera store. Don't do that.
