16:9 Output format issues - please help Can't Post

Hello;

I am new to this forum. I hope someone here can guide me with an issue I have.

I own a Sony VX2000. My Brother and I have recently finished a 63 minute short film using it. We filmed the footage in 16:9, then Captured it with Adobe Premiere Pro. We then edited the movie together using a 16:9 formatted Template in Premiere. We then exported the final movie back out to the Sony VX2000 using the firewire, back onto a miniDV tape.

This has worked fine up to a point. When I play the movie back from the MiniDV Tape we recorded it on, on the Sony, onto my Widescreen TV, it plays fine, in widescreen. When I play it back on a 4:3 TV that is 16:9 Capable, it letterboxes it, but still shows it in true widescreen.

The trouble occured when I recently gave a miniDV tape with a scene from the movie to a friend, who works at a Studio with an AVID station. Using their MiniDV player/Camcorder they input the scene (which was recorded in SP mode on my Sony) directly into the AVID. Well the footage came out onto the Avid vertically stretched...ie, 4:3, despite the fact that the same clip on the same tape, played in widescreen when I viewed it on the Sony LCD.

Anyone have any Idea why. Could it be the miniDV player/recorder/camcorder they were using couldn't put out 16:9 or didn't recognize our footage as such some how. Has anyone else run into this before.

The issue is important, as I have to use there system to get our film onto Beta SP for Festivals.

Just a wild guess, but the avid station would need to ues a 16:9 workspace to pull the data in properly. 16:9 footage is "stretched" on the camera/tape and the application has the responsibility of putting back in its proper format (I believe).

I'm waiting for many people to correct me on this matter :o
