750 lines v. 540 lines Can't Post

The jvc-dy500 camcorder is capable of 750 horizontal lines of resolution, so why would JVC use miniDV as the recording format? I.e. miniDV is limited to 540 lines, so 210 lines of resolution is lost in the recording process. Is there something im missing here??

Yes you are missing some thing [In reply to] Can't Post

No matter what you aren't going to record on to tape dv or dvcam 750line. The only way you will benifit from the 750 lines is if you broadcast your video live.
I had an Sony EVW300 professional Hi8 that did over 700 lines but it went onto a 400 line tape. The same holds true, that it only helped if you went live.

Pro cameraheads quite often have 700 and more TVL resolution. This figure only relates to RGB or YUV outputs. Once recorded, and/or encoded (PAL,NTSC...) or broadcasted (=encoding and modulation), bandwidth is lowered resulting in only 350 to 530 TVL.

There is not such thing as 750 lines of resolution.
This is only(if it is) on papers.

HDTV cams get 1,000 lines of resolution while recording to tape! So there is such a thing as >750lines but it is expensive.

The basic question related to a JVC camera and simular I understood...Once you leave the standard TV world, 1000 lines of hor resolution is only low res there. HDTV and future electronic cinema goes up to 1920 lines(not 1000!) X ray up to 8000 (also recorded!).

No matter what, there is a limit for how sensitive our eyes are for all these lines of hor resolution. We don`t need more than necessary... :)

Re: Yes you are missing some thing [In reply to] Can't Post

The human eyes' sensitivity is far greater that any video on the market today, since it cannot even come close to the resolution of a good 35-70mm photographic slide, which is about 35,000 lines. So video cameras and video tape or any recording medium for video has got a long way to go yet!
