About to Purchase a Sony VX2100 Can't Post

Hello guys,

I'm about to purchase a VX2100. Here are my options:
1. Local (philippines) - around $2900 camera only.
2. Singapore (online) - around $2600 camera only. + taxes + shipping
(Inquired from DHL and Fedex it costs $340+.)
3. US (online) - now this is ridiculously cheap... about $2600+/- (including shipping to US only though) + tons of freebies such as wide angle lens, telephoto lens, hard case, soft case (bag), tripod, miniDV tapes etc. I already have a family who will bring this from US so I dont worry about shipping anymore.
Here's the link of the site:
http://www.expresscameras.com/...id=29442&start=1

My QUESTION Is... with this incredibly low price... is it safe to purchase from there? Sometimes, when its too good to be true... you doubt if its for real. Hehehe. Well, I'm really very excited to do this and will highly appreciate your comments.

Oh, why VX2100? I dont have a lot of choice. Sony is the only one w/ a certified service center in our city. But I'm happy with Sony cameras anyway. :-)

rgds.,

Most of the deals online that offer all of the extra stuff are basically just selling you the camera. Most of the lenses that they say are a "$300 value" are actually available for under $75 a piece, and word is that most of them are worthless in quality. I have even seen some of the polarized filters advertised that have used OTHER COMPANIES' sample photos to show what "their" filter can do, when their filter doesn't do near the job that the image indicates. Most telephoto lenses and wide angle lenses advertised in these cheap packages are next to worthless. The tripods are actually (if you look them up) about the same as the $20-$30 tripod that you get at the local store.

As far as this site goes:

The only thing they really offer is the case, tripod, and cleaning system. Most of the cases with these things are about $15, and I bought a lense cleaning "system" for under $10 at the local store. The $149 value is probably comparable ot a $50 in true life, although I can't vouch for it. However, it is not a bad price for the camera. I would also be sure that the original documentation comes with it, in the original box, with all of the UPC codes on it. At times companies will cut the UPC code off of the box (proof of purchase) and send it in when Sony offers rebates on the cameras, so YOU don't get the rebate, and you don't actually have a proof-of-purchase with the device...just a receipt which isn't good for many rebates. I have heard of photo-copied manuals as well.

Again, I don't know anything in particular about this company, but you may want to check into some of these possible pitfalls.

Dude, u just saved me a lot of dough. Smile it was very tempting and i was willing to go for the presidential package. i guess i will just stick to the camera alone and then purchase the accessories (lenses, batteries, etc) directly from our local supplier. with that, i think i will save about 20-30%. thanks!

(hmm, makes me wonder if i shud look at the PD170 since i saved something. hehehe.)

Hi, my friend just forwarded me this site which reviews a lot of online retailers... http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1895.html I find it VERY VERY useful. I was almost going to purchase a PD170 for $1500+++ but this site made me think otherwise. I hope anyone will find this useful.
