Are there any PD-150/170 users on here? Can't Post

I'm looking to get a short directional mic for one of my VX2000 cameras. How's the OEM mic on the PD150/170? How would you compare it to the Senn. ME-66?

It picks up sound pretty good (PD-170), but I would call it anything BUT directional. It is not very directional at all. I have heard that the Senn is pretty good.

I have Senn and PD 150. Supplied mic is okay. . . . but not what I would call directional,
more for picking up ambiant sounds.
The Senn 66 on the other hand is very directional. . . . . .thats what its designed to do.

The Senn ME66 is an excellent mic, but not as directional as other shotguns in the general price range. For a comparison of three moderately priced 'guns, see

I just got the ME 66 and I have made some initial tests. As a general cam mounted microphone I think the difference between it and the OEM (ECM-NV1) that is supplied with the PD 170 is as big as the picture quality between the PC 110 and the PD 170.

Taking it into field use this weekend.

I use a PD150 with an older senn mic the ME80, similar to the ME66. It works great! Extremely directional.

Field use:
The Me 66 is quite directional in a very good manner. It has a natural feel within the cameras zoom field. Although I am going to get a Me 67 at a later date for even more directional work.
Me 66 works well indoors. I took some footage of Zorro the great Norwegian Forrest Cat (Main Coon type) as he was posing on the floor. The purr was clear with a good bottom. Distance 1.5 feet / 50 cm.
