I haven't gone HDV yet but have read good things about Vegas with HDV. (I use Vegas to edit SD.) You will need a capture utility to capture the HDV over firewire. ConnectHD from Cineform does this for Vegas and costs around $150.

Hi Mike,

If you are happy with Vegas then definitely stick with it. Depending on your current PC setup, you may find that upgrading the hardware will be a big benefit. You'll need more processor and more storage than with DV.

Jeff, I realize that when I upgrade cameras I will probably need to make a similar investment in computers. What hardware would you recommend for editing HDV?

Thanks,

Hi Rick,

I'm not the PC hardware guru, but from what I've seen recommended you'll want dual processors, lots of fast RAM and a SATA RAID for video. Check here for system specs: http://www.videoguys.com/HDV.html#system
