DVCAM Format Played in Mini-DV Camera Can't Post

I have a Sony DVCAM tape that was recorded (presumably) in DVCAM format. I was under the assumption that it would play in a mini-DV camera.
When I try to play it in a consumer mini-DV camera (Canon ZR70 MC) the video looks fine, but the audio is choppy and '16bit' flashes on the LCD display.
Maybe it is just the Canon, tho. Because when I play another mini-DV tape (recorded on a different mini-DV camera), I get the same problem (12bit flashes this time). The Canon works fine with a tape that it recorded.
It doesn't help to adjust the audio settings to 16 or 12bit.
Any ideas/recommendations?
Thanks

The DVCAM tape woun't play in most mni-dv decks. The DVCAM tape speed is faster and most mni-dv units can't properly read it. It also sounds as if the Canon may have a issue. First sign is that it plays back its own stuff but has difficulty with tapes from a different source.

DVCam tapes will play in all Sony decks and cameras, with the exception of the VX 1000, which was produced before DVCam. Other brand cameras often stumble with DVCam recordings.
