Expensive Repairs to VX 1000 Can't Post

I sent my VX 1000 to Sony to fix a problem with TC loss between cuts. They gave me the runaround kept my camera for 2 weeks and then came up with a cost that was almost twice what they quoted over the phone. The quote was $274 flat rate. Then they called back with a $561 flat rate. I refused service and am waiting to get my camera back.
It cost $70 bucks just to send it to sony and get it sent back.
Does anyone know of a reputable repair shop in or around South Carolina?
Thanks
