External Mike on VX2000 Can't Post

I have tried connecting an external mike to the mini plug thats on the right side of the handle.
But still the on-cam mike stays on and the mikes that I plug in dont give any sound at all.
Is there an internal menu setting that I am Missing.
I have tried a Sienhiesr Shotgun and a sone ecm-77 also an RE-50
and I get 0 response.

Never tried that but have used the Studio 1 for some time from the TRV900 to the VX2K and find the audio stellar.I suggest if using balanced XLR audio pick up the Studio 1 right away.
