Final Cut Pro or Canopus Dv Storm Can't Post

Thinking about finally getting some sort of non-linear editing system. Don't want to go to expensive because I kow things are alwaya improving and coming down in price. Just curious which would be the best way to go. I was thinking of getting a Powerbook along with FCP because I like the idea of mobility. Or should i have a system built and get DV Storm (is DV Storm real time?). Any preferecnces or is either choice a good one?
Thanks.
Bob

I would stay away from a Powerbook unless you plan on hooking it up through a tradtional monitor, NLE needs lots of desktop space, plus all those hours in front of that little keyboard without a normal mouse would be excruciating.

Re: Final Cut Pro or Canopus Dv Storm [In reply to] Can't Post

: : Bob,
First - yes the DV Storm is Realtime and a very good card. However, the software is rather "simple". We use Canopus products and love them but unfortunately most of our time is spent using Adobe Premiere (which comes w/the DV Storm) because the Canopus editing software is, like I said rather primitive. It's fine for basic cuts but if your making effects driven projects your going to end up using Premiere. If you need realtime go with the Storm (best product in it's price range) and Premiere is getting better with every upgrade. If not go with Final Cut Pro it's the best editing software for under a thousand dollars. I took a class in it (FCP), and really liked the program. Im fixing to purchace a Mac and a copy of it myself. The software is extremely popular in the "independent" film community.
