Not enough info to be any help. Do some logical testing yourself - rec to a different new tape, play a known good tape back, etc.

I've had a similar problem before, I ran a head cleaner through it and it was fine. The problem can be caused by using the vx1000 for playback e.g. vtr mode or the edit search button. I would only record on the camera to save your self from problems.

Definitely Not true. Record or playback handles the tape in exactly the same manner - absolutely no difference whatsoever.

i have done all that testing. it wont play back any tapes. the tapes playback on other cameras though. i also tried recording onto a tape after this whole time code fiasco and there is still nothing. the recorded sections just show up as nothing on other cameras as well.... are my heads ruined form being in the cold? i had been filming in the snow....... will a head cleaner work? i forgot to put it in a bag before i came into a warm.

Cold will not ruin your heads. If you got the inside of the camera wet from the snow then any number of problems can occur. Always good to remove the battery for a few minutes to let the cam reboot its onboard CPU. A cleaning tape run for no more than 10 seconds - a couple of times if the first pass doesn't help or just FF or RR a regular tape will also clean most clogs if that is the problem. Do you have a picture in the viewfinder when in the Cam mode?
