I need ideas for the skateboarding movie we are working on..... Can't Post

We are taking this project very seriously. We are using our best efforts to make this video a success. There is this company that might distribute the video when it is complete but I'm not sure if thats such a great idea. I know nothing about business and I'm afraid I might get screwed over. Does anyone here have any expierence with the company "Action Sports?" Basically, I just want to know how I can make a few bucks off of the vid. Thanks in advance -Robert. P.S We haven't completely finished filming for the vid, but is it ok that I already started the intro?

there are no rules to making a skate video. (except @ 411)
when you "are done filming" someone brings a hammer that you cant pass up, usually after you finish their part.
its good to have a concept in mind before you finish filming so you can steer the footage to match it, or at least pick up some footage that reinforces your 'theme'. listen to others ideas, but dont let them influence you. not everyone in the video will be happy with it, this is something you need to live with. let the the people with parts give you input on their sections, but dont let them direct them. you need to make it all fit together.

A guy that knows nothing about skateboarding? How did you come up with this assumption? I've talked to this kid for only a month, but I know he's into the sport very much. I've seen some of his work and it looks promising, plus he has some good named kids under his belt. Why crush other people's dreams when you know nothing about them. Why make yourself look like an idiot? Leave this kid alone and let him do what he wants to do. So if you have no positive input, stay out of it, simple as that.
peace, Hazelwood

He didn't say he knew nothing about skateboarding....He said he knew nothing about dealing with video action sports which only means he's never had a video distributed before, not that he is some greedy corporate guy just tryin to make a buck. I know robert from this board and i know he not just tryin to make a buck...he likes skateboarding for what it is not for its financial benefits.

I believe "Action Sports" might be the distributer for Logic skateboard media. I am not positive though. Who do you film...where do you film?

Re: I need ideas for the skateboarding movie we are working on..... [In reply to] Can't Post

You are right. I know nothing about skateboarding. I have only been skateboarding for 4 years and filming it for as long as I can remember. How am I greedy? The only reason that I need the money is that producing video isn't cheap, and I need a way to buy new equipment. It sounds to me like you are quick to blame. Think before you speak. BTW, didn't I give you advice about videography a while back? Also, thanks to Brady and Hazelwood for getting my back, that was real nice of you.

my experiences with Video Action Sports....... [In reply to] Can't Post

Video Action Sports (VAS) is rather slow. You will have to be the one making calls to get your stuff taken of becuase they aren't too good about keeping in touch with you. Don't wait until a month or two before you plan to be finished with the video to contact them...They are very slow in getting stuff done so you need to contact them as early as possible. The process just takes a while. You have to fill out some forms, send them in, wait for response, send in teasers, wait for a response and for a meeting to take place so your product can be introduced and stuff like that.
I will say that they seem to be slightly better now though because the previous supervisor of the new products dept has been replaced and the new guy seems to be better at keeping in touch taking care of stuff.
They distribute a lot of videos and most people deal with them so it's probably best to go through them unless you have some really good connection and can get it distributed by a distribution company within the skateboard industry.

What's up with this bull sh-- any!!! Some of you people act like making money is a bad fu--ing thing. I got news for you... the only way to get to were we want to be is to make money and what a great fu--ing thing if we can make money doing what we love to do.
Mind your own business and move on jack a--.
My basement is full of thousands of dollars worth of cams and editing equipment. These all live in a $900 Rack. This equipment has been paid for by video work. Now I can just have it as a hobby and not worry about how I can pay for my equipment.
Flash!!!! This is how you pay for your equipment: MAKE MONEY DOING WHAT YOU LOVE TO DO.
So you go scr-w yourself and leave the dreamers alone. If not for these dreamers how else will we get to the next step????

LUCAS ...WHO IS THIS SORRY SOUL? [In reply to] Can't Post

lukass,lukass,lukass.....i really didnt think i would come across someone so SAD. You talk like your a part of the "skateboard industry".....I think your just a little too upset that you dont have a job or any money to buy a camera to tape yourself falling trying to ollie up a curb. First you need to get a life ...2nd you need to show a little bit more respect for someone that enjoys the same hobby as you and that is trying to combine his hobby with a carrer to make some money....you might not understand now but someday you might have a job and will understand how nice it is to have a few bucks in your pocket. and 3rd you need to stop saying things like "leave us alone" ....who is us? is it you and your 10 year old brother who you skate with?....If you think that your "industry" is getting crowded then leave and make room for someone who deserves it.
good luck robert!
and luke give your brother a hug

READ THIS!!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

Okay fellas since you all think i am some 15 year old loser or something that has no job and sucks at skateboarding ill give you some info on my life. I currently film for a company called Capital Skateboards. I as well have sent footage to Logic and i got a few clips in there. Capital Skateboards is going to come out with a new video and i am the main filmer and editer of it. So for all you idoiots that think i am just some jealous little kid that knows nothing about skateboarding and the industry, think again.

Re: READ THIS!!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

I never said you were some jobless little kid or that you didn't know anything about skateboarding. I know nothing about you so why would I say that? YOU were the one telling me and others that we know nothing when you have no idea what i do or do not know about the skateboarding industry.
Besides, how do you expect people to respond to you if you are just going around telling strangers they are dumb and know nothing when you don't know a thing about the people you're making those remarks too. It just bothers me that you go around making assumptions. That was my only problem.

Re: HEY LUCAS, I GOTS A QN 4 U! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hey Lucas,
No s*it you sent some footage and got it on Logic? Well done. I am in australia and am planning on starting a small town video magazine. I DO have a full time job as a software engineer but I have recently hooked up with some awesome skaters who I would probably put up there (switch kicka's down sets o ten) switch ollie da set o 15!) (50-50 12 stair rails), switch 50-50 10 stair rails etc).. SO anyhow, here is my question.. In the dozens of pro US videos I have seen, what is the type of digital cam's they all are using. They seem to have a built in fisheye or matching fisheye (usually gray in colour) and they dont have lcd screens at the side like the k-mart cams. I see em in ALL the vids and I would love to know the brand of these cams so I can start looking around for one. In short, what is the industry standard cam (+ fisheye lens) for filming skate tricks/films?

Yes I know GL1's are nice but he asked what everyone is using and the industry standard in skateboarding right now is a vx1000 or vx2000. That's what the majority of people are using. I'm just answering his question don't get so excited over nothing.
